Rysanov & Phion

Featuring the Dutch première of Gabriel Prokofiev's spectacular Viola Concerto

Since several years Maxim Rysanov has very successfully been combining his international career as viola player with conducting. On 24 and 25 October 2025 he will lead Phion – Philharmonie Oost Nederland – for a programme with works by Sergei and (grandson composer!) Gabriel Prokofiev and Joseph Haydn’s 45th Symphony ‘Abschied’.
Gabriel Prokofiev followed his grandfather Sergei into music, initially in pop, dance, and hip-hop, but later also in classical music. He was fascinated by Maxim Rysanov’s playing and conducting, so he wrote a Viola Concerto for him, in which Maxim combines playing and conducting. The premiere was a sensation: “Rysanov performs the work with his mind, his body, his viola, and his bow, yet always remains a master of action in this complex combination,” according to the raving press.
24 October 2025 Enschede, Muziekcentrum @ 20.00 hrs.
25 October 2025 Arnhem, Music Sacrum @ 20.00 hrs.
