On Friday 31 October and Saturday 1 November 2025 pianist Alexander Melnikov and Quatuor Danel will present a Shostakovich special in Muziekgebouw Amsterdam to commemorate that the composer died 50 years ago.
The programme will feature a few absolute highlights from Shostakovich chamber music oeuvre, such as the 24 Preludes and Fugues for solo piano and the Piano Quintet. The Danel will guide us through the quartet cycle, performing the very 1st, the popular 8th and the heartbreaking 15th and last String Quartet. As bonus the artists will also present the piano quintet of Mieczysław Weinberg, great friend and protégé of Shostakovich.
