Quatuor Danel, formed in 1991, is a French group partly based in Brussels and partly in Paris. They teach as a quartet at the University of Manchester, where they took over from the Lindsay Quartet. The Quatuor Danel is not only versed in the classical and romantic masters, but also works in close coöperation with the great composers of our own time such as Dusapin, Rihm, Widmann, Lachenmann, Mantovani and Harvey. Their recording of all 15 Shostakovich quartets for the label Fuga Libera has been compared by the international press to legendary recordings of the Borodin Quartet and the Beethoven Quartet. Their ambassadorship for composer Mitzslav Weinberg is ongoing with performances of over seven cycles of his 17 quartets worldwide in 2019 and 2020.
