The Berlin based Artemis Quartet was founded in 1989. First prizes at the ARD Wettbewerb and the Premio Borciani were followed by an international breakthrough. Playing and practicing with colleagues is hugely important to the Artemis Quartet. Truls Mork, Juliane Banse and Leif Ove Andsnes are some of their regular partners. Curiosity for new music and attention for contemporary composers such as Mauricio Sotelo and Jorg Widmann is crucial for the quartet. In 2005, they entered into an exclusive agreement with Virgin Classics. Some of the numerous cd's which have since been released have earned them major awards such as Deutscher Schallplattenpreis, ECHO Klassik, Diapason D'Or, The Gramophone Award. A CD-box with the complete Beethoven quartets was released and received the prestigious French 'Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros'.
